What
Claude Code keeps a list of file types it treats as binary, meaning not plain text. The list now also includes:
- .dmg and .apk
- .docm, .dotx and .dotm
- .xlsm, .xlsb, .xltx and .xltm
- .pptm, .ppsx, .ppsm, .potx and .potm
- .numbers and .epub
Before, the office-file part of the list stopped at formats such as .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and the OpenDocument formats.
Why
These files are now likely handled as binary instead of being read as text, which would only produce unreadable content.
