Unclear Exactly which names the rule covers is not stated.

What

Claude Code has a new, stricter rule for names. It refuses a name that:

  • holds hidden, direction-changing or blank-looking characters
  • contains < or >
  • is longer than 256 characters

Refusals are written to the log. The rule is controlled by a remote setting, and when the server sends nothing, Claude Code falls back to applying it.

Why

This affects which skill and plugin names Claude Code accepts, so a name with unusual characters may now be refused.
