When Claude Code fails to save a settings file, the error says the settings couldn't be updated. If the failure is because permission was denied or the file system is read-only, the message adds: Start Claude Code in a project folder you can write to.
Why
If you start Claude Code in a folder you cannot write to, the message now tells you what to do about it.
