What

Grep is the tool Claude uses to search file contents. Claude sometimes calls it as if it were the command-line grep program. The tool already fixed one such mistake, a file_path given where path was meant. It now also handles:

  • -l: read as output_mode files_with_matches, listing only the files that match
  • -c: read as output_mode count, giving a count of matches
  • -r: ignored, because the tool always searches a folder recursively

Each fix adds a note to the result saying what was changed.

Why

Searches that Claude writes with these familiar flags now run instead of failing because the input did not match what the tool expects.
