What
A plugin marketplace is a git repository listing plugins (add-on packages for Claude Code). It can contain submodules, which are other git repositories linked inside it.
When Claude Code clones a marketplace, it now looks at which submodules the plugins actually point to and runs git submodule update --init --recursive --depth 1 on just those, instead of on every submodule. It falls back to fetching every submodule when:
the list of plugin paths cannot be read
a linked path is not under real directories
Why
Marketplaces that link large submodules no plugin uses should clone faster.
