Unclear Which settings besides _CLAUDE_CODE_ASSUME_FIRST_PARTY_BASE_URL can now cause discovery to be skipped is not stated.
What
CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_GATEWAY_MODEL_DISCOVERY turns on gateway model discovery, where Claude Code asks a gateway (a server sitting between Claude Code and the model) which models it offers. When discovery is skipped because Claude Code is treating its base URL as Anthropic's own API, the message now says "the base URL is asserted to be the Anthropic API". Before, it said _CLAUDE_CODE_ASSUME_FIRST_PARTY_BASE_URL was set, and that variable was checked directly. The check now goes through a shared step.
Why
The message no longer ties the skip to that one variable, which suggests the same assertion can now come from more than one place.
