Unclear It is not clear whether project, local and added-directory CLAUDE.md files are now read somewhere else or are no longer read on this path at all.

What

Claude Code reads instruction files called CLAUDE.md, also known as memory files, to learn how you want it to work. One of the places where it scans for these files now lists only two kinds:

  • Managed files, set up by an administrator.
  • User files, from your own home settings.

That scan no longer includes the project CLAUDE.md, the local CLAUDE.local.md, or the files from directories added with --add-dir. It also no longer checks CLAUDE_CODE_ADDITIONAL_DIRECTORIES_CLAUDE_MD, the environment variable that turns on loading memory files from those added directories.

Why

This scan now reads fewer files. If you rely on project, local or --add-dir memory files, check that their instructions still reach Claude Code.
