New messages when pressing the left arrow does not background right away

What

Pressing the left arrow (←) sends the current work to the background. Claude Code now tells you when that does not happen straight away:

  • Cancelled: you have unsent text in the input. The message reads "Backgrounding cancelled - you have unsent text in the input. Send it or clear it, then press ← again."
  • Delayed: a question is waiting for your answer, so backgrounding happens after the current tool finishes.
Why

Before, pressing the left arrow in these situations gave no feedback. Now you can see why nothing happened and what to do about it.
