What
Claude Code's prompt has an optional vim mode, which uses the keys of the vim editor. When you move up or down, vim tries to keep the cursor in the column you were in. Claude Code now tracks that column. These commands now reset it:
x, D and u always reset it
p and P reset it in some cases
The insert commands i, I, a and A now share one code path, and repeating an insert with . is handled.
Why
In practice, the cursor should land in a more sensible column when you move up or down after one of these edits.
