What
When Claude Code reads pages from a PDF, or a whole PDF, it now hands the file it already has open, along with the file's size and a cancel signal, to the steps that render pages and count them. Those steps used to work from the file path and look up the size afterwards.
Why
In practice the whole read works from one open file, and page counting can stop when the read is cancelled.
