What
Claude Code has an idle timer that sends a notification once a session has been idle long enough. When the timer runs out, Claude Code now first checks whether any background agents, helpers working separately on a task, are still running. If they are, it does not send the notification. It waits for them to finish and then starts the idle timer again.
Before, the notification went out as soon as the time was up.
Why
You should no longer be told a session is idle while helpers are still working in it.

The writer flagged doubtWhat the idle notification shows you, and exactly which helpers count as background agents, is not known.
