What

The Bash tool is how Claude runs shell commands for you. A command can run in the background with the run_in_background option, which lets Claude carry on while it runs.

In this version, Claude's instructions for the Bash tool no longer explain how timeout applies to background commands. The removed text said timeout sets how long such a command may run (default 1800000, maximum 7200000), and that at the limit the command is stopped and Claude is called back.

Why

Claude now gets less guidance about how long background commands may run. That may mean the timeout itself behaves differently, so watch long background commands.
