Unclear It is not settled whether background commands are actually stopped sooner, or whether only the wording Claude reads has changed.
What
The Bash tool is how Claude runs shell commands. Its description is the text that tells Claude how to use it. That description now says a background command, one that keeps running while Claude carries on, has a default time limit of 600000 milliseconds, which is 10 minutes. Before, it said 1800000 milliseconds, which is 30 minutes. The maximum is still 7200000 milliseconds, which is 2 hours. The description also tells Claude that a command which reaches its limit is stopped and Claude is called again.
Why
If you rely on long background jobs such as builds or test runs, Claude is now told to expect them to stop after 10 minutes unless a longer limit is set.
