A plugin adds extra features to Claude Code, and a marketplace is a catalogue you install plugins from. Before, when a plugin's components could not be loaded, the plugin screen only said "Failed to load components". Now it can say why:
- Marketplace turned off: "Components are not shown because this plugin's marketplace is turned off."
- Marketplace not available: the plugin "isn't available in this session."
The list of plugins offered for install can also be narrowed to what the marketplace currently offers. The plugin manager also works out what switching to another copy of a plugin would do: which plugins it would replace and which saved data would be removed. This step did nothing in the previous build.
You get a reason when plugin components are missing instead of a bare failure message. Before you switch a plugin copy, Claude Code can tell you what would be replaced and what saved data you would lose.
It is unclear what turns a marketplace off and whether the plugin-switching offer can be reached by users yet.
