What
Claude Code's gateway now checks a provider policy, at most once every 60 seconds. When the policy disallows it, the gateway answers requests with a 503 error (the standard "service unavailable" response) and records provider_policy as the reason in its audit log. It also refuses to start in that case.
Why
A managed gateway can now be shut off by policy. If you see 503 errors with that reason, the cause is policy, not a fault in the gateway.
