When Claude Code signs in to AWS without a named profile, it now looks for credentials in environment variables first. Environment variables are settings you give a program through your shell. If none are found there, it falls back to the standard AWS lookup it used before, which was previously the only source it checked.
Why
This changes the order Claude Code uses to find AWS credentials, which matters if you use Claude through Amazon Bedrock. If you have credentials both in environment variables and somewhere else, such as a credentials file, the environment variables now take priority.
