Environment variables are settings you give a program through your shell. If none are found there, it falls back to the standard AWS lookup it used before, which was previously the only source it checked.\n\n**Why**\n\nThis changes the order Claude Code uses to find AWS credentials, which matters if you use Claude through Amazon Bedrock.
