Claude Code passes the VS Code extension a set of feature switches. These are on/off settings the server can control, and they decide which extension features appear. When the product-feedback policy or related state changes, Claude Code now re-reads every one of those switches and sends them to the extension again. They include:
- onboarding
- the check before resuming a session
- inline pastes
- auto-mode state
- several others
Before, a policy change only updated two of the switches. If the refresh fails, Claude Code logs "[VSCode] Failed to refresh the policy-bound gates:".
The effect is small. After a policy change, the extension works from current values instead of a mix of fresh and stale ones.
