Claude Code writes a short title for each session based on your first message. When that message is longer than 2000 characters, it can now shorten the text before sending it off for the title: it keeps the first 1500 characters and inserts a marker such as "[… N characters omitted …]" in place of the rest.
This only happens when a remote switch is on. Its fallback in the code is off, so the whole message is sent unless the switch is turned on for your account. If the switch cannot be read, the whole message is sent. The record of each generated title now notes whether the input was over the limit and whether it was shortened.
Starting a session with a very large paste no longer has to send all of it just to make a title, which makes title generation cheaper and faster where this is switched on.
