MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers are outside programs that give Claude Code extra tools. When Claude Code connects to one, it sends an initialize request listing what it supports. It can now include support for elicitation, a way for the server to ask you for input through a URL or a form.
Two flags control this. tengu_mcp_legacy_url_elicitation has a fallback value of false. tengu_mcp_legacy_url_elicitation_server_denylist lists servers that should not be offered it. The capability is sent only when all of these are true:
- the first flag is on
- the server is not on the denylist
- the connection type is stdio, sse, http or ws
The initialize request is rewritten on its way out so that it reflects the denylist decision. The flag server returned off for this site's account and for an anonymous check.
When enabled, MCP servers that use this older style of asking for input could request it from you through Claude Code, while specific servers can still be excluded.
