What
/insights keeps cached data about each past session. It now also records:
permission_mode: which permission mode the session ran in.
bash_would_prompt_count: how many shell commands would have asked you for permission.
file_edit_tool_count: how many file edits were made.
destructive_command_count: how many destructive commands were run.
Cached sessions that lack bash_would_prompt_count are analysed again, up to a limit.
These counts feed a summary of auto mode use: sessions in auto mode, sessions not in auto mode, an estimate of permission prompts in non-auto sessions, and destructive commands in non-auto sessions. Auto mode is the mode where Claude Code decides permission requests itself instead of asking you. An auto-mode session counts as 0 prompts. In default mode, file edits also count as prompts. Estimates of 100 or more are rounded to two significant figures.
The summary picks between two new tips:
A "switch_to_auto" tip suggesting auto mode. It appears only when all of these hold: auto mode is available, there are enough sessions, you do not already mostly use auto mode, the sandbox auto-allow is not active, permission decisions are not already made by the auto mode classifier, and the estimate is at least 3 prompts.
A "run_setup" tip for people who already use auto mode: "Tip: you already use auto mode - run /auto-mode-setup once to teach it your environment and improve its decisions."
Why
The report now uses your own session history to estimate how many permission prompts you sat through, and may recommend auto mode or /auto-mode-setup on that basis. Expect this recommendation in reports if you often approve prompts by hand.
The entry above is what we published on the day. These lines were added later, as Anthropic's own pages caught up, and they sit beside the original rather than replacing it.
