What
When Claude Code finds two of its configuration files at startup, it now shows a notice naming which one it uses.
- With SDK stream-json output (machine-readable output for programs driving Claude Code), the notice arrives as a system notification.
- Otherwise it is printed to stderr, the error output of your terminal.
The notice is skipped for background sessions and some JSON output modes.
Why
If an old legacy .config.json is still lying around, you can now see that it exists and which file Claude Code is actually reading.
