What

Claude Code saves files from claude.ai connectors into a folder named connector-downloads. Project and local settings files inside such a folder are no longer loaded. Project settings belong to a project folder, and local settings are your personal settings for that folder.

  • Opening Claude Code in a connector-downloads folder shows a warning that its settings files are not used, pointing to /status.
  • /status explains why these settings are skipped.
  • Saving settings there fails with the message "Settings aren't saved here: this folder is in a connector-downloads folder".
  • When every settings file that failed to load sits in a connector-downloads folder, the error says those files are not used instead of reporting a general read failure.
  • Choosing autoMemoryDirectory also skips project and local settings in such a folder.
Why

Files downloaded from a connector can come from anywhere. This stops a settings file planted among them from changing how Claude Code behaves. If you work in such a folder, put your settings somewhere else.
