What
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard Claude Code uses to connect to outside tools and services, called MCP servers. Some servers can run long jobs called tasks. When cancelling a task, Claude Code now checks which version of the protocol the server speaks. If it is an older version without task support, Claude Code writes a note to its log and does not send the tasks/cancel request.
The handling of failed checks on a task's progress also gains a condition that can make Claude Code give up after a single failed check.
Why
Older MCP servers no longer receive a cancel request they do not support.
