MCP servers are add-on programs that give Claude extra tools. Claude Code now has handling for connector tools that take files. When a tool takes files, Claude Code wraps it so files can be uploaded to it. When the check on a tool fails, the tool is left without upload support and Claude Code logs a warning.
The new handling also covers:
Recovering the connection and retrying after a dropped session
Offers to download files
Error messages when the connector's final answer was not a tool result
