What
Before Claude Code writes or edits a file, it can show you a permission prompt (a request for your approval) and a preview of the changes. If reading the file for that preview fails in an unexpected way, the error used to be passed on unchanged. It is now passed through a step that also receives the path of the file involved.
Why
An error that knows which file it came from can say so, which makes a failed preview easier to trace back to the file that caused it.
