What
When you return to an idle session (one ongoing conversation) and resuming it in full would use a lot of your quota, Claude Code shows a dialog. Before, it offered only resume, start a new conversation, or dismiss. It can now also offer "compact", which runs /compact to summarize the conversation and carries on from that summary instead of a full resume.
resumeFromSummary: the new option. It is offered only when the dialog opens on resume,/compactis available, Claude has not ended the conversation, and thetengu_cold_resume_quota_actionsetting is on. Nothing has been read about that setting yet.offersSummary: set on the dialog when the choice is offered. The dialog's answers are now resume, new_conversation, dismiss, cancelled and "compact".- When the compact choice does not work, the dialog reports
compact_unavailable,compact_failed,compact_queuedorcompact_not_applied.
Why
If you come back to a session after a long gap, you may get a cheaper way to continue it. Claude then works from a summary, so it may have less of the older details.
