What

Auto-compact is when Claude Code automatically summarizes a long conversation so it fits in what the model can hold at once. If compacting keeps failing, a safety stop called a circuit breaker makes Claude Code stop trying.

Before, every failure counted toward that stop. Now some failures go on a separate tally and do not add to the main one. The separate tally has its own stopping point.

Why

Some compaction failures may no longer make Claude Code stop retrying as quickly.
