When two tools have the same name, Claude Code used to keep whichever it found first. It now replaces the first one with a later one when a certain condition holds. Two other places that remove duplicate tools now use a different method, and one of them filters its list first.

This can change which tool Claude gets when names clash, for example when a tool from an MCP server (an add-on that supplies extra tools) has the same name as a built-in one.
