Unclear It is not clear what the 180000 controls for background subagent calls.
The number Claude Code applies to tool calls made by background subagents is no longer read from the server. A subagent is a helper Claude starts to work on part of a task. The number is now fixed at 180000, and the server setting tengu_maple_ferry is gone.
The number is still 0 for nested calls, calls started by a hook and the other cases that were already excluded. It is also 0 in two new cases:
- Prompt caching is off. Prompt caching lets the service reuse earlier parts of a conversation.
- Prompt caching is set to one hour.
A value that could be tuned from the server is now fixed for eligible background subagents. Where it used to fall back to 0, it now has a real value, so behaviour can differ from before.
tengu_maple_ferry Not enough to sayNothing here resolved what this flag was doing on this version, so nothing here should be read as on or off.
