Unclear What work-look does and whether it can be run directly is not stated.
What
A self-hosted runner is a machine you operate yourself that runs Claude Code sessions. It now has a work-look subcommand, a command run under the main Claude Code command. The dispatcher loads it from a part of the program that provides selfHostedRunnerWorkLookMain, next to the existing decode-token subcommand.
Claude Code runs self-hosted-runner work-look as a separate process. It inspects a session's checkouts, meaning the folders holding a copy of a code repository, and looks for work that would be lost if the session were released:
- uncommitted changes
- unfinished merges or rebases
- unpushed commits
- stashes, which are changes set aside with Git
- entries in the session folder that are not accounted for
It reports reasons starting with kept_ along with plain-language explanations. The check is also used when --exec-path or a command hook starts the session. A hook is a command you configure to run automatically at certain points.
Why
A runner can now find out that a checkout still holds unsaved work before it releases the session. That makes it possible to avoid losing changes nobody has saved or pushed.
