When Claude Code fetches a full-size image attachment, it can now also fetch a smaller copy that the server made beside it. It checks the copy against size limits and, if the copy passes, sends that copy to the model directly. Claude Code also counts how often the copy was found or missing and how many extra image tokens it used. Tokens are the units the model's input is measured in.
