Unclear It is not clear whether anything switches the backdrop feature itself on or off.
What
Apps that connect to a Claude Code session, such as a desktop or mobile app, tell it on connecting (ui_attach) which interface pieces they can draw. This list has grown.
- The
Backdroppiece is now allowed on["desktop", "mobile"]instead of desktop only. The message for when no app can draw one now reads "no attached desktop or mobile client says it draws backdrops (an app with the backdrop layer does, on its ui_attach)". - A backdrop event can now carry a color scheme:
{ backdrop: { id, glass?, colorScheme? } }. Before it was{ backdrop: { id, glass? } }. ui_attachnow recognises "Backdrop", "Input" and "Select" as known draws. Before, only "Backdrop" was known and anything else was ignored.
Why
Sessions viewed from a phone can now show backdrops, with a light or dark style, and connected apps have two more kinds of control to offer, an input field and a choice list.
