Unclear It is not clear what being marked as a host-managed runner child changes for a session.
What
A self-hosted runner is a machine you run yourself to carry out remote Claude Code sessions. Each session it starts runs as a child process, a separate program the runner launches with its own environment variables (named values passed to a program).
CLAUDE_CODE_EXIT_AFTER_STOP_DELAYwas blanked out in the child's environment. It now carries a value.- The runner reads that value from the
environment_variablesthe server provides. It accepts only a whole number of 1 to 9 digits with no leading zero, and only for one kind of session. - A new check treats a session as restricted if
claude_code_argsincludes restricted, ifCLAUDE_CODE_RESTRICTEDis set, or if the setting sources leave outprojectSettings. - A new marker identifies a child run by a host-managed runner. It is set when the session is remote, bring-your-own-compute (byoc), self-hosted, provider-managed by the host, and
ANTHROPIC_BASE_URLis set.
Why
A server can now set how long a runner's session waits after it stops before exiting, where before that setting was always cleared. Only plain whole numbers are accepted, and the new checks tighten how runner children are set up.
