What

Permission rules are the entries that decide which tools Claude Code may use without asking you. claude edit-permission-rules is a hidden subcommand, meaning it is not listed in the help, that adds and removes those rules. Before, it only handled adding and removing, with a simple check for a rule already being there. Now:

  • Compose: a new kind of request the command accepts
  • Add requests: can now carry offerCheck, confirmedPath and allowRuleSuppressed
  • Certified rules: refused, with the message "certified rules cannot be added"
  • Duplicates: rules that differ only in spelling are caught, with a warning that "removing either removes both"
  • Whole-tool warning: the warning about rules that cover an entire tool is reworded for some rules
Why

Anything that adds or removes rules through this command now gets these checks, so a near-duplicate rule is flagged before it causes confusion and a certified rule cannot be added this way.
