For one tool, Claude Code turns on citations, meaning references back to the source documents. It now does this only when either of these is true:
- the tool's input has no explicit schema (a fixed description of what the input looks like)
- the tool's schema includes a
citations field
Why
This avoids sending a citations setting to a tool that does not support it.
