What

A hook is a command you configure to run automatically at a certain moment. A MessageDisplay hook runs while Claude's reply text is being displayed and can rewrite that text. Claude Code now records whether the hook's output was actually applied to the message. Before, it only passed the message along.

Why

In practice, Claude Code can now tell a message a hook rewrote from one it left alone. Other behaviour can build on that difference.
