What
Compaction is when Claude Code summarizes a long conversation to free up room. send_now is a control request from the SDK, the toolkit programs use to drive Claude Code. It interrupts the current turn so a new message can go in.
Its description now covers a turn that is compacting the conversation by itself:
The CLI first lets the compaction end, so that the summary is kept.
It then moves what the turn is waiting on to the background, or stops the turn at its next model request.
Before, the description only covered moving the waits to the background, or stopping at once like a plain interrupt.
Why
If a program uses send now while Claude Code is compacting a conversation on its own, the summary being written is kept. The interruption takes effect only after the summary is done.
