Unclear It is not clear what decides which method is used, or whether the new one is used by default.
What
Claude Code watches your git repository, for example to notice when you switch branches. Until now it always did this by polling, which means checking files again and again on a timer.
It can now use a different method. Files are checked when they are read, a timer starts once something subscribes to changes, and the file that records your current branch is watched for changes directly. Which method is used depends on a condition checked while Claude Code runs.
Why
The new method could mean less background work while idle and branch changes showing up sooner.
