What
Claude Code now adds rules to .git/info/exclude for the files it writes in the .claude/ folder. .git/info/exclude is a local file that tells git which files to ignore, and it is not shared with anyone else. If the repository's .git folder is laid out in an unusual way, Claude Code does not add the rules. It shows a warning that those files may show as untracked in git status.
Why
Claude Code's own files under .claude/ no longer clutter git status as untracked files you might commit by mistake.
