What

Plugins are add-on packages that extend Claude Code. A plugin can now place a row in the conversation. The row appears as a system message, which is a note in the conversation that comes from Claude Code rather than from you or Claude.

Each plugin can only place a fixed number of rows. A placement fails in two cases:

  • There is no conversation to place the row in.
  • The plugin has already reached its limit.
Why

This is a new thing plugins can do, so plugins may start showing their own messages inside the conversation.
