What

If .claude/settings.json or .claude/settings.local.json in a project sets environment variables (named values passed to programs) that control your claude.ai sign-in, Claude Code shows a startup notice that a project can't set your claude.ai sign-in. The notice says these values are ignored and tells you to set your own sign-in in your shell or in ~/.claude/settings.json. It stays on screen for 15 seconds.

Why

Those values were already being ignored without a word. The notice tells you why your sign-in did not change and where to set it instead.
