What
Claude Code watches your skill files so it can pick up edits. It checks more or less often depending on whether you are active or idle. It used to close the watcher and build a new one every time it switched between the two. It now changes the checking rate on the existing watcher, and builds a new one only if that fails. Idleness is now detected with a timer that is reset when you interact.
It also records a diagnostic event when the watcher sees a change. The event notes whether the change was in a synced-skills folder and whether it came within 40 seconds of an announced reload.
Why
There is less starting and stopping of the watcher in the background, which avoids problems that came from rebuilding it.
