What

A permission prompt is the dialog where Claude Code asks you before a tool, meaning an action such as running a command or editing a file, goes ahead. Several parts of these prompts changed.

  • Prompts that were not shown: when a prompt was never displayed and the tool defines resultWhenNotShown, the result is now an 'ask' with the reason 'the ask was not shown'. Before, the action was cancelled and stopped.
  • onRacersReady: per-tool dialogs now support this callback. It shuts down any other approvers still waiting once the prompt has been settled, because a prompt can be answered from more than one place.
  • Command descriptions: when a tool is approved in place of the classifier, the dialog now includes a description of the command. The classifier is the automatic checker that can approve some actions.
  • localDisplayOnly: when this is set, file edit prompts skip looking for a diff to show in your code editor (IDE). A diff is the side-by-side view of what changed. Before, that lookup always ran.

Why

A prompt that never reached you no longer cancels the action outright, so the request can still be answered. These changes also affect which prompts appear and how they are settled when more than one place can approve them.
