What
Claude Code can install its extension in your IDE (code editor) automatically. The decision now goes through one new check that also gives a reason:
The new check reports why auto-install is skipped. The reasons are that CLAUDE_CODE_IDE_SKIP_AUTO_INSTALL is set, or that the autoInstallIdeExtension setting is off. The setting defaults to on.
The install function no longer reads the variable and the setting itself. It goes ahead when the new check finds no reason to skip.
The install function now returns its result.
Why
If the extension was not installed for you, Claude Code can now say which switch stopped it. Both switches are now read through the new check, not by the install function directly.
