What

DISABLE_COMPACT is an environment variable that turns off compaction, which is summarising the conversation to free space. It is now handled in two more places:

  • Teammates that run inside the same process now check that DISABLE_COMPACT is not set before compacting their history. Before, they compacted whenever the conversation passed the auto-compact size limit.
  • The filter that sorts environment variables supplied through settings now treats DISABLE_COMPACT specially, depending on a condition that was not resolved. It also checks against a new set of names.
  • DISABLE_COMPACT is added to a list that already holds CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_PROACTIVITY, CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_FILE_MENTIONS and CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_WEB_FETCH.

Why

If you set DISABLE_COMPACT to stop compaction, teammates now respect it too. Whether a DISABLE_COMPACT set in your settings takes effect may depend on the new condition.
