What
When you @-mention a file, Claude Code attaches its contents to your message. Behind the tengu_snuggly_goblet flag, large files may now be handled differently. The flag server returned this flag off for this site's account and for the anonymous baseline; no reading has been taken under this release.
- Shared budget: when the flag is on and the model's context limit is above a base value, @-mentioned files are read against a shared size budget, measured in tokens (the units the model counts text in). Each file claims part of the budget.
- First lines only: a file that does not fit is cut to its first lines.
- Over the limit: a file that is still too big is marked
overTokenLimit. - References: when a feature check passes, a file marked
overTokenLimitis sent as anat_mention_referenceinstead of its contents.
Why
In sessions with large context limits, the model may see only the start of a big @-mentioned file, or just a reference to it, instead of the whole file. This keeps large files from filling the conversation.
tengu_snuggly_goblet Off in both readingsThe flag server returned off for the account this site reads and for the anonymous baseline. A reading of off cannot rule out a rollout these two readings sit outside of.
This account: off · anonymous baseline: off · compiled default in v2.1.311: off
These values were read against a different version of Claude Code, so treat them as the nearest reading available instead of one taken on this release.
Read once, for one account on one subscription tier, against v2.1.311. It isn't a statement about your account. What a flag value here can and cannot tell you
