What

A headless session runs Claude Code without its interactive screen. Compaction is when Claude Code summarises earlier parts of the conversation to free up room. Claude Code can hold back the signal that compaction has finished. In headless sessions it now releases that held signal whenever a turn ends with a status other than success.

Why

This could stop a compaction indicator from staying stuck after a failed turn.
