What

The sandbox limits which files and folders Claude Code's commands can reach. Claude Code turns file paths into patterns for its sandbox rules. That step now escapes more characters, meaning it treats them as plain text rather than as pattern symbols. Before, it handled ? and a smaller set of symbols. The characters it now covers include:

  • square brackets [ and ]
  • quotes
  • backslash
  • control characters

When Claude Code chooses not to rewrite a path, it now logs a message saying the path "keeps its spelling".

Why

Rules that block paths should now match files with unusual names more reliably.
