Unclear What the new startup step actually does is not known.
What
The daemon is a Claude Code process that runs in the background. Every daemon subcommand other than run now performs an extra step when it starts, and that step takes into account whether Claude Code is attached to an interactive terminal. The step is controlled by a remote switch whose fallback, when the server sends nothing, is on.
Separately, the cleanup of background sessions is now done only when an additional condition also holds.
Why
Daemon commands now do more at startup than they did, by default unless the step is switched off remotely.
